Year 2004 saw the rise by 44% to nearly 11.9 million in the number of surgical
Plastic surgeries such as liposuction, breast augmentation, and facelifts grew by 17%.
Women accounted for 90% of all cosmetic procedures in 2004, and the number of cosmetic procedures performed on women increased by 49% compared with 2003. Plastic surgeries increased by 21% and non surgical procedures rose by 57%. Women regard this as a source to gain emotional, psychological and social improvements that led to the increase in percentage
Among men, the number of overall cosmetic procedures rose by 8%, although the number of plastic surgeries declined by 11%.
As compared the top five surgical cosmetic procedures in 2005 were: liposuction (324,000;) nose reshaping (298,000;) breast augmentation (291,000;) eyelid surgery (231,000;) and tummy tuck (135,000,)
Non-surgical cosmetic procedures increased by 13 percent to nearly 8.5 million in 2005. The top were: Botox injections (3.8 million;) chemical peels (1 million;) and laser hair removal (738,000;)
The other emerging trend in plastic surgery is many more men embracing self-improvement through facial plastic surgery. According to the American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery (A.A.F.P.R.S.,) year 2005 saw a whopping 60 percent increase in men and 30 percent increase in women selecting cosmetic procedures.
